11 Key Beliefs of Christianity when It Comes to Doctrine.

Here are 11 Key Beliefs of Christianity when it comes to doctrine.

Ready to learn about the key beliefs of Christianity?  For some reason people like to discount doctrine. They say things like, doctrine doesn’t matter, or if you share the word with someone they’re quick to say, “ you’ll just talking about the doctrine.”

Before we can build, we must lay a good foundation. First, Christianity is defined as the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices. Interesting enough, the Bible doesn’t use the term Christianity. How does the Bible refer to the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth? In this article we will examine 11 very important truths that support what people call Christianity. In this article we will call it the teaching of Christ or doctrine of Christ.

Now is a good time to define the term doctrine.

Doctrine is a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church, political party, or other group.…0.0..0.124.990.0j9……0….1..gws-wiz…….0i71j0i20i263.mi3699lhkFQ
So, the doctrine of Christ is the set of beliefs held and taught by Jesus. And, we must include the apostles of Christ as teaching the doctrine of Christ as well because they taught what Jesus commanded them to teach. They were guided by the Holy Spirit.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
John 16:1

Here we go, 11 important keys beliefs of Christianity when it comes to the doctrine of Christ

1. We must abide in it!

A good synonym for abide is to obey. That reminds me what Samuel told Saul when he did not destroy the Amalekites as he was told.

18 And he sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’

19 Why did you not obey the LORD? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the LORD?”

20 “But I did obey the LORD,” Saul said. “I went on the mission the LORD assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king.

21The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the LORD your God at Gilgal.”

22 But Samuel replied: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.”

Never be fooled by those who try to say that doctrine is not important. The devil uses deception. The apostle John taught plainly on this matter:

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9

2. You shouldn’t add to or take away from the doctrine of Christ.

Romans 16:17
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. Paul wrote that right after he referred to the Christians as the churches of Christ. Since that time men and women have come up with different names that do not give the glory to God and his son.

3. There are other doctrines (teachings), but they are not the true doctrine (teaching) of Christ

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Sleight mean trickery.. man is crafty like the devil. Simply believing that Jesus died for your sins is not enough. The Bible in James says that the devils believe and tremble.

Ephesians 4:14

Hebrews 13:9 – Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For [it is] a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

I Timothy 6:3-5

4. We get doctrine from the inspired word of God

2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

5. Ministers of Christ will teach good healthy doctrine

Titus 2:1
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

Doctrines of men and women will cause millions of people to be lost eternally.

Faithful gospel preachers will preach God’s word without addition or subtraction.  Remember what God told Jonah?

Rise, go unto Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim unto it the proclamation that I am speaking unto thee;’

Jonah 3:2

Young’s Literal Version

6. A time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine. The Holy Spirit said that a time will come when people would not want to hear about the doctrine of Christ

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 2 Timothy 4:3

7. We can be saved by obeying the doctrine of Christ

Romans 6:17
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Of course, this is not saying that we earn our salvation.  But we obey God by Faith.  After all, we will be judged by our works.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10

1 Timothy 4:16
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

8. There are things contrary to sound doctrine

For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

Some will believe that any doctrine is a key belief of Christianity.  But, if you are going to follow the doctrine of Christ, you must not abide in doctrines contrary to Christ doctrines.

9. What does the old testament say about doctrine, teaching and the word of God?

The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psalm 19:7-8

10. God’s doctrine accomplishes his purpose

Isaiah 55:10-13

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. “For you will go out with joy And be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

11. You have to hold fast sound doctrine.

Titus 1:9 – Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

What does hold fast mean?

To bear down, grit it out, stay the course

Originally a nautical term probably borrowed from the Dutch “houd vast” (hold tight) referring to the importance of securely gripping a ship’s rigging.

Times are tough right now but we got to hold fast and ride it out.

Do not let anyone turn you from the truth.
